Old Red's OEM Non Air Con pulley decided to melt and throw the belt off.....then

We took the sump off Old Rattler and the reason the oil light came on at Bedford Autodrome was because the oil pump had seized and .....

The spare engine was quickley stripped to a block and a list of new parts  ordered for the rebuild, hopefully with a fresh engine it will pick up some more torque and horsepower as the original engine had done 89000 miles

Old Rattler done us proud today, with two people on board and a full tank and still with all the original interior in it, it went

Unfortunatley we're not sure if it was Paul driving with our resident racing driver / instructor http://www.adam-foster.co.uk/tuition/ing LOL, or Adam driving with Paul hangining on, or Adam driving with Russ as passenger, while Adam was driving an oil warning light came on so we decided to retire it for the day.

pic

So Paul then switched over to Ard White and improved his time from last meeting by 3/10ths, not quite the 1.29 he wanted but still a good time on the 205 40 17 Neutons.

pic

A quick switch in the break saw Russ go out on his 16 inch Rotas & Toyo 195 50 16 Toyo 888 tyres off the Power Ranger, Russ did manage after a bit of coaching from Adam Foster to dip into the 1.29s with Adam next to him, he also managed a 1.29 in his timed run as well.

pic

Scott then went out for a £25 taster session for virgin track day newbies...........so you can understand his facial expression when he was told he was unoffically timed to a 1.31 sec lap.

1320MINI Team up with CATCAMS

A while ago, Cat Cams got in touch and asked if we would be interested in testing some camshafts for the R56 MINI. Of course we agreed but felt it would be nice to come up with a new R53 camshaft first, as we have always felt there was more left on the table.

The first two cams on their list, which they already produce for the R53, turned up for evaluation, as previously mentioned on our blog we tested the 4 cams on the same day in April 2011.

All the dyno results and logs were sent back to the engineers at Cat Cams who then came up with this latest design.

So here are the results for the new Cat Cam for the R53:

All the testing was carried out on the old David B car and the specs are as follows:

550cc Injectors

Bytronik Tune

GP Intercooler

15% KMTpulley

JCM catback

1302469 CatCam

Stock S cylinder head

Stock exhaust manifold

Dave F Airbox

We were amazed at the results, and feel confident you will be as well.

Results are both tuned to the same fuelling with no ignition timing adjustments.

As you can see this camshaft just keeps going and just doesn't seem to want to drop off so our next mod will be some ARP rod bolts and see if there is anything left beyond 7500

As you can imagine we are really excited about this latest development and association with Cat Cams and  can’t wait for the R56 cams to turn up to see the difference they can make.  Of course if we can convince them to make some R53 Supercharged / Nitrous cams and R53 Turbo / Nitrous cams even better! The future will be bright; the future will be Cat Cams.
